| November 7, 2007 Dear Fruit Growers and Wine Makers Subject: 2008 Mid-America Fruit Growers Conference and Trade Show Im Rick Vrbas, chairman of the 2008 Mid-America Fruit Growers Association Conference. Id like to invite you to the MFGA conference at the luxurious Lied Lodge in Nebraska City, Nebraska, January 15th-18th, located in scenic SE Nebraska and home of historic Arbor Day Farm. This year will be remembered as the year of the devastating April/Easter freeze which impacted fruit production throughout the Midwest. Despite dealing with this hardship, I hope your business has prospered. This is an opportunity to network with others sharing your experience. This all-inclusive conference features trade vendors, professional speakers, silent auction, meals and banquet in one economical price. A postconference tour of the local Kimmel Orchard, Schilling Bridge and Whisky Run Creek wineries is available. Check out the web sites located at the bottom of this letter. Whether you are a seasoned producer or a novice interested in tree fruit, grapes, wine or small fruit production, this is definitely the conference to attend to learn about agronomic, administrative and marketing issues. The conference begins at the Kimmel Education and Research Center with sessions on the economics of fruit production, immigration/labor and farm bill issues. The tree fruit and small fruit program features university extension and research specialists Dr. Larry Gut, Dr. Rich Marini, Dr. Bruce Barrett, Dr. Jim Hruskoci and Dr. Megan Kennelly. Also, agr.assistance owner Jeff Alicandro, an apple production agronomist who works with large apple growers in New York State, will address insect management. The grape program features research and extension specialists Dr. Paul Read, Dr. Mark Thomsen and Dr. Kris Berglund. Detailed information regarding topics is included in the attached program. I encourage spouses and friends accompanying you, but not attending the conference, to come and enjoy other attractions in Nebraska City include gift shops, antique shopping, outlet malls and the Lewis and Clark visitor center. Nebraska City is only a short drive from Omaha and Lincoln. Contact the Lied Lodge at www.liedlodge.org or call 800-546-5433 for more information and room reservations. Please indicate you are attending the MFGA conference. Please register on line at www.midamericafruit.org or mail registration to Mike Gerhardt 1732 Jackson Road, Ottawa, KS 66067. If you have questions, contact Mike at 785-242-5511 in the evenings or Judy Mcdowell at 402- 475-6282 or email nata@alltel.net during business hours. I look forward to seeing you in January.
